Designing Solutions For Defense (DS4D) teaches USM students how to work with the Department of Defense (DoD) to better address the nation’s emerging threats and security challenges.
Students do not build demos for generals, but learn how to deploy solutions to our nation’s warfighters. They learn to do this with the speed and urgency required to compete in the modern threat environment.

DS4D at USM is part of the national Designing Solutions 4 Defense (DS4D) network that provides a university-based ecosystem to develop prototypes that match DoD users’ needs in months rather than years. By creating a national network of colleges and universities, the Designing Solutions for Defense program can scale to provide hundreds of solutions a year – and also develop the future workforce that our country must have to counter threats faster than they are generated by our adversaries.
